Discussion Item #1: Financial Statement & Budget 

  • The 2024 financial statement, prepared by outgoing Treasurer John Stemerdink, was presented by Brad and accepted by the membership. 

  • A vote of thanks was extended to John for his contributions as Treasurer. 

  • Connected with the budget, it is traditional that we make contributions to local worthy organizations: 

  • Outers Club (Bruce Peninsula District School): 

  • A past student presented the program and highlighted needs. 

  • A donation of $500 was approved, with three members agreeing to match this amount. 

  • Lion’s Head Hospital: 

  • A donation of $1,000 was approved, with funds earmarked for projects, not general administration. 

  • Golden Dawn Retirement Home: 

  • LR20RPA will fund up to 4 concerts at $125 per concert, paying musicians directly. 

  • Musicians are responsible for coordinating with the home for scheduling. 

 

Discussion Item #2: Liability Insurance for Directors 

  • The cost of liability insurance (over $1,000 annually) was discussed. 

  • John Campbell shared concerns about removing the insurance, based on his experience with another RPA. 

  • Action Item: Review the current policy, assess coverage, and explore local brokers for possible alternatives. 

 

Discussion Item #3: Bear Sighting, Bear Bins and Garbage Management 

  • There was a discussion about recent bear sightings and garbage bins.  

  • Sandra Wilson (Wilson’s Home Hardware) offered a discounted price of $900 plus HST for locally manufactured bear bins (regular price: $965). 

  • Members were advised to contact Sandra directly for purchases. 

 

Discussion Item #4: AGM Timing and Additional Activities 

  • Proposal to move the next AGM to and earlier date (potentially May 2025, but TBD) and incorporate a yard sale

  • Terry Juniper offered his property and tent for the event. 

  • John Campbell and Fran Glofcheskie volunteered to assist with planning. 

  • Action Item: Plan next AGM/yard sale. 

 

Discussion Item #5: Food Recycler Program 

  • John Van de Kamer shared information about the North Bruce food recycler program and its subsidy, informing that the program has been set up for North Bruce and that there is a generous subsidy for those who wished to obtain a food recycler. 

 

Discussion Item #8: Sparling’s Propane Negotiations 

  • Brad reported that the 2024 rate is set at $0.569 per litre for members who have paid annual dues. 

  • Sparling’s community coordinator has been contacted to ensure members receive this rate. 

 

Discussion Item #9: Infrastructure Updates – LR20 Culvert & Bass Road 

  • LR20 culvert: Reconstruction was completed in September 2024. 

  • Speed and “Children at Play” signs: Signs are in place at Silversides Beach but missing on Bass Road

  • Action Item: Brad to follow up with Todd Cameron, Road Manager regarding Bass Road speed signs. 

 

Discussion Item #10: Community Website Development 

  • Stephane McMaster, a local professional website developer, is creating LR20.ca

  • Features: Member information, Sparling’s dues, North Bruce Peninsula newsletter, LR20 emails, and community updates. 

  • Stephane is providing this service at no charge and covering some hosting costs. 

  • Expected updates on progress in the coming months. 

  • Action Item: Stephane and team to develop website. 

 

Discussion Item #11: Election of Officers 

  • The following positions were confirmed: 

  • President: Brad Glofsheskie 

  • Vice President: Jim Gambacourt 

  • Assistant to the Executive: Bob Sweeney 

  • Secretary Treasurer: John Van de Kamer 

  • John Van de Kamer will also continue as the Facebook account administrator, with additional help welcomed. 

Discussion Item #12: Bank Signing Authority 

  • Signing authority and account access were transferred from John Stemerdink to John Van de Kamer

  • Bank processes now require two signatures.
